Darren has lived in Horden for
most of my life. During this time he has become really passionate about the
community; Darren is the secretary of Horden Regeneration, Trustee of
Horden Youth and Community Centre and founder of Horden’s Helping Hands. Darren
went to Costford Infants & Juniors School, and then to Durham Johnston
School then he spent a couple of years at East Durham College where i trained
doing my Customer Services Level 1 and 2 moving on
doing Business admin apprenticeship and know work for the local council in
Seaham.
Darren has said "I am particularly driven to help small businesses and local community groups within our Village and ensure we have a community that support new ideas. I am keen to ensure that any struggling business and local community groups in our Village receive as much help to grow and thrive within Horden.
I
believe it is time that the young generation have a local voice to express
themselves and their values.
I
went on and to set up a group called Horden’s Helping Hands. This is a
community group of local volunteers who simply want to improve Horden. Our
recent work revolved around tackling a growing litter problem around our area.
Our group have been litter picking on the Old Colliery site where we see great
support from local residents, MP, Local PSCO, Durham County Council, Durham
Heritage Coast and the local Probation Team. Our Current project is Horden
Memorial Pit Wheel where we are looking for funding to restore the Pit Wheel
back to its former glory. This group demonstrates the brilliant contribution
our volunteers are making all over the community. For more information you can

Facebook page Horden's Helping Hand."
